The second day of our project started in the hot city of Bologna (temperatures above 35ÂșC).
Florence, famous for its rich history, Renaissance art and stunning architecture, which attracts many tourists, and although there is a great commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation, there are still many aspects to improve.
As a strong point, we highlight sustainable mobility. The city has implemented extensive pedestrian zones and promotes the use of public transportation and bicycles as alternatives to private vehicles. The historic center is considered a “Limited Traffic Zone” (ZTL), where only authorized vehicles can circulate, reducing pollutant emissions.
As a less positive point, we highlight waste management. Tourism implies waste, and there are few places in the city where garbage can be separated. There is some dispersion in the placement of these containers and, on a day like today, it was very easy to see piles of water bottles in garbage bins without being properly separated.
As for the parks and gardens, they are carefully maintained, providing not only recreational areas for locals and tourists, but also habitat for local flora and fauna. However, this is not difficult because access to them is paid (both for locals and tourists).
Arriving in Bologna, new adventures await us!
